After a combative main campaign, Clinton conceded the election when nominee Barack Obama held a majority of the delegate vote. Shortly after Obama won the us presidential election, he appointed Clinton to Secretary of State in his Cabinet. She accepted the nomination, and was officially approved by the Senate on January 21, 2009. During her tenure as Secretary of State, she visited 112 nations, probably the most that any Secretary of State has visited, continued her struggle for the rights of women and children worldwide and supported the dangerous, but ultimately profitable mission to kill Osama bin Laden. During the 1992 presidential marketing campaign, she emerged as a dynamic companion to Bill Clinton and continued to be an ally for health care reform and children’s rights.
